Coral Line by Takashi & Mari Makio
Date created: 5 June 2018
Coral Type: Branching
Coral Species: Acropora humilis
Message: We shall return to Gili to see our coral line.
Update April, 2021: 11 colonies from this line have been transplanted to a bommie in the Gili Lankanfushi lagoon, which is a naturally occurring underwater structure. The resident marine biologists think it may be an old coral that is potentially thousands of years old, but that has died long ago and now functions as the perfect substrate for our transplants. The 11 colonies are now part of an ecosystem that provides essential functions such as food and habitat for the diverse marine life in the Maldives.
