Gili stories

The Gili Book of Stories tells the tales of former guests who have left a mark on our resort and in our hearts.
I
ROMANCE
Lost in translation

A Japanese couple on their honeymoon was matched with a Mr. Friday who didn’t speak Japanese. But Mr. Friday knew they had just tied the knot and wanted to do something special to surprise them. So, one evening, he decorated their villa with candles, rose petals, and other romantic touches to set the mood. When the couple came back to the room, they couldn’t believe their eyes. Some gestures transcend language barriers.
II
OUR LITTLE FRIDAY
Story of Columbus

A beloved guest named Columbus has visited Gili Lankanfushi with his family ever since he was a boy. Staff recall Columbus once taking such a liking to his Mr. Friday that he asked his father to buy him a hotel uniform that he could wear while following Mr. Friday around the hotel. In 2016, the family visited the resort twice, once in April and in December. To show our appreciation, we invited Columbus plant a coconut tree so that he’ll be able to see it whenever he returns to the resort.
III
FAMILY VACATION
3 Generations

Three Generations of the Foss family have celebrated their holidays at Gili Lankanfushi. It started with the grandparents, then their kids, and recently, the third generation came and stayed with us. To make their getaway extra special, the youngest family members got their PADI scuba diving certification at the resort.

A Drop in the Ocean
Thirty-three years ago, Gary and Tina first visited our island, then called Hudhuveli, for their honeymoon. Years later, they decided to revisit the place where they first celebrated their love, but due to the resort’s change in ownership, it took them years to track down the island (the Maldives is home to over 1,000 coral isles!). Their quest was not for nothing. Eventually, Tina located our island and booked 10 magical days at Gili Lankanfushi in celebration of a milestone anniversary.
