Coral Line by: Vicky Ko

Coral Type: Branching

Coral species: Acropora nasuta

Note: You will notice that there is no bar at the 3 month mark on the graph below. This is because unfortunately this line did not survive. The cause of mortality was the 2016 El Nino event which caused a rise in sea surface temperatures in April and May. The corals are sensitive to any change in conditions, and unfortunately it was too much for the vulnerable fragments on this line. The majority of small fragments that were recently planted suffered the same, whilst some of the bigger, older lines survived. To learn more about the El Nino’s effects on the reef, head to our bleaching page, stay tuned for a full update on nursery survival, or email the project manager at [email protected]
